Stitches half out… progress!

Had a great appointment with the vet today!  She’s amazed at how well Baby’s doing and how sweet she is. (I could have told her that!)  About half the stitches came out today.  The rest need another week.  She has so much weight sitting on that wound, it’s taking a little longer to heal.  She’s still a little drippy.  The vet explained that large dog like Baby has a lot of space inside that collects fluids more than a little dog.  Guess we won’t pick up the puppy pads quite yet.

Baby was so happy about leaving the vets she practically ran out to the car.  Then she jumped in, got settled and spent the trip home taking turns laying her head on Roger’s shoulder and mine.  Such joy and contentment! (Such drool and shirts to change)

Just to let the Monkeybutts know, I took Toby to the dog park when we got home.  Don’t want to leave him out of the car rides.  I keep expecting to find a little section of tree with slash marks where Toby and Baby are keeping score :- )

Wags and smiles,

Roger and I have adopted many furbabies in our 35 years of marriage. Baby is a 6 yr. old 155lb English Mastiff who came to us when she was 1 1/2 yrs old along with her 'brother' Toby (a Landseer Newfoundland). We adopted them from Gentle Giants rescue and they are, indeed, both Gentle Giants. Baby was diagnosed with bone cancer in January 2012. She just had her surgery on January 27th, 2012 to remove her right rear leg. She is recovering beautifully we are thrilled to have her with us!

  1. Glad to hear about 1/2 the stiches coming out. Boomer still is dripping a bit also. He has a saroma and is a bit uncomfortable from it. As soon as we can get him off his soaker we can remove that and some of the dripping will stop then.
I think our mokeybutts are keeping score of how many times they can get Boomer to jump up thinking someone is here.
Love the part about all the drool! Drool on Baby drool on.

  2. Great news!! It gets a little better each day. I know you can’t wait till everything is all healed up and things get back to normal. And to not have to keep going to all of those vet visits too. I was so sick of that place by the time Valentina healed up. Valentina drooled in the car too. She didn’t normally drool just in the car. And she would shake and make a shower of drool go all over us!

  3. what a great day for baby, and for toby!!! glad you guys got half of the stitches out…it does seem to take longer for the bigger ones to heal, but you are making progress!!! our monkeybutt pups are celebrating ‘half way’ for your stitches being out…half as many treats as they really want!!!

    don’t forget the medicinal naps!!
