Doggy Door… Really? Ultimate Freedom!

So we had decided to keep Baby from trying to use the doggy door (yes, it’s a very large doggy door – comes in handy when we lock ourselves out as we can crawl right through) until her stitches were out.  Then we would introduce it very carefully and slowly.  Well, once again, we make plans and God laughs.

Today my husband brought in the garbage cans and as usual Toby came trotting around the corner to greet him. This involves leaving the house via the doggy door.  The surprise was Baby hop-trotting right behind him.  Evidently, we hadn’t closed off the door well enough and she did what came naturally.

Our Baby is full of surprises.

Learning every day.

Roger and I have adopted many furbabies in our 35 years of marriage. Baby is a 6 yr. old 155lb English Mastiff who came to us when she was 1 1/2 yrs old along with her 'brother' Toby (a Landseer Newfoundland). We adopted them from Gentle Giants rescue and they are, indeed, both Gentle Giants. Baby was diagnosed with bone cancer in January 2012. She just had her surgery on January 27th, 2012 to remove her right rear leg. She is recovering beautifully we are thrilled to have her with us!

  2. I had an identical situation. Planning to keep Dakota away from the dog door, fretting about how to help him re-learn to use it. Then–there he was beside me! Good for Baby for showing you what she can do. She will never look back and she invites you to expect only great things.

  3. Baby is rearing to go! Nothing is gonna hold that beautiful Baby back! So glad she is getting better and improving every day. Sounds like life is starting to get back to “normal”.
