Baby is having pain in her front leg. We’ve been hoping she was just sore and rest would take care of it, but it’s not getting better. She doesn’t even get up to greet us at the door. She stretches on her tummy and wags her tail and lets us know she’s happy to see us, but doesn’t even try to get up. She’ll still get up to eat and go out, but it’s not good.
We see the vet tomorrow – wish us luck. It would be terrible if we put her and ourselves through all this for nothing.

Roger and I have adopted many furbabies in our 35 years of marriage. Baby is a 6 yr. old 155lb English Mastiff who came to us when she was 1 1/2 yrs old along with her 'brother' Toby (a Landseer Newfoundland). We adopted them from Gentle Giants rescue and they are, indeed, both Gentle Giants. Baby was diagnosed with bone cancer in January 2012. She just had her surgery on January 27th, 2012 to remove her right rear leg. She is recovering beautifully we are thrilled to have her with us!

OH NO! I hope Baby is ok! Please please keep us posted on what is going on.
Paws, fingers and toes all crossed that it is nothing serious.
Hugs and wags,

there is no NOTHING!!! you did what you needed to do to end baby’s pain, and that’s a big something. don’t get ahead of yourself, and try to stay focused on the now and the lovely baby that is wagging her tail. maybe it’s a sprain, or a tweek of her neck, or any of a zillion other things….so, you’re going to the vet and you’re going to get information…that will be your tool to use in making decisions… hugs to you all!

So sorry to hear this Judy. But, I agree with Charon – you did not do this for nothing. Having read all of your posts over the month, it is apparent that Baby is out of pain and is happy. AND, so are you! Whether that is for a month or a year, it is definitely worthwhile.
Will be thinking of you. Please let us know what happens.

Hello Judy. I am so sorry that Baby is not feeling good. I really hope that you get some answers from the vet and they know what to do to make it better. I know how hard this is for you. I will be praying for you that Baby will be Ok.
Good news! Vet says she was fine! Just a strained muscle. He gave her a shot to relax it and meloxicam (pain med) and she’s doing much better! He said it may take a couple of weeks of laying around a lot, so we’ll have to forgo walks for a little bit. I was so relieved that’s all it was!
Thanks for your good thoughts and support. It’s great to have the tripawds network working for us!
Hugs and Wags,
Judy and Baby

So glad to read in your follow up that it was just a sprain!!! I know it’s easy to start thinking the worst, especially since you’ve already had a cancer diagnosis…. We’re saying a big WAHOOOOO!!! here for you that you were worried for nothing!

Gosh so glad to keep reading…whew!
Feel better soon Baby!
Thanks everybody! @karen – I have no doubt you were eloquent in your almost posting. The positive thinking worked – with or without the post!
Tonight Baby was on her back, squirming to have her tummy patted and letting her lips fall back in a big mastiff smile : )
Judy so very happy it was “just” a muscle strain. Thinking of you and feeling relieved on your behalf.

OMD I was so scared Judy! Then I read your update in the comments. WHEW! SO glad to hear that.
It’s hard not to think the worst during this roller coaster ride. But please try to remember that no matter what, your choice to help alleviate her pain in the fastest way possible AND still give her some quality time with you, was never for nothing. She is amazing and her story is here to inspire and bring hope to others faced with this situation. Always remember that OK?
