Day 7 – Baby’s so much better!

Every day is improvement!  Baby is getting more comfortable being a ‘hopper’.  Boy she’s fast.  When she decides to go outside we really have to move to keep up with her!  She’s’ so happy to be able to get back on her couch.  (Most tripawders recommend staying off the couch which is very good advice, but a dog as large as Baby is not jumping down off the couch, she just sort of steps down.)  This site has been so great to help us through this time!  I’m learning so much.   Thanks for all the advice and support!

Roger and I have adopted many furbabies in our 35 years of marriage. Baby is a 6 yr. old 155lb English Mastiff who came to us when she was 1 1/2 yrs old along with her 'brother' Toby (a Landseer Newfoundland). We adopted them from Gentle Giants rescue and they are, indeed, both Gentle Giants. Baby was diagnosed with bone cancer in January 2012. She just had her surgery on January 27th, 2012 to remove her right rear leg. She is recovering beautifully we are thrilled to have her with us!

    1. Well, it really wasn’t supposed to be ‘her’ couch, but she’s a very big girl to argue with. Makes for some nice cuddles when she lets us share ; )

  1. so glad to hear that she is improving every day. We are at day 19 and Bowser is practically back to normal. He now wants to eat with the pack (5 other bassets) and is back on dry kibble. His stitches are out and his incision looks great.
Just keep taking it a day at a time.
This site and these people are a wealth of information and a have great shoulders to lean on.

    1. So good to hear from a 19 dayer. Looking forward to more normalcy all the time! Glad Bowser is doing so well. I’m afraid Baby has figured out that ground beef is a pretty good thing. It will be interesting to see how long it takes her to accept the dry food again. I mix some in with the beef and she gobbles it all down, so at least she’s eating. Toby, her buddy, can’t figure out when to eat. He’s used to her eating with him. At least all of our post surgery challenges are temporary! That helps a lot!

  2. Yeah, we’ve heard about those long-legged pups being able to just step up to a couch. Now there’s an advantage of having long legs!

We’re so glad she’s getting her life back to normal. You are an awesome caregiver!
